Name:
Arba
Race:
Hera-seijin/Shin-Jin Hybrid (because why the hell not?)
Home world:
Space
Faction:
Galactic Frieza Army.
Quirks:
Blind Pride: Burying his hatred for the GFA with false pride, Arba has conditioned himself mentally to be the perfect underling for them. Any insult to the GFA results in a knee-jerk reaction where his pride consumes him and pushes him to action in spite of any deeply hidden agreements with the arguments made. Survival Mechanism and device to propel himself through the ranks, his pride is a great asset to the GFA, and a massive weakness to himself.
Unusual/Volatile Ki: Arba's Ki is intensely volatile and hard for him to control, he only got to take one lesson in Ki control during training, and that resulted in an explosion that nearly killed his trainer and subsequently had him barred from further training and labelled a failure at Ki manipulation. The real reason for Arba's Ki volatility is due to his unusual heritage and suppressed emotion. Issued a Hand Blaster to compensate for his lack of Ki power, Arba does have some ranged ability, but it is minimal and he prefers hand to hand.
Background:
Space Piracy and Demonic Affairs, what's not to love? Arba's conception was a rare and strange case, two exiles meeting under seemingly impossible circumstances and finding passion where they would normally respond with mistrust and rage... Perhaps it was simply the celestial alignment acting upon them, maybe it was fate, perhaps it was the whim of a fickle god influencing the flow of the universe to his amusement, whatever brought them together though blessed Arba's mother with child.
Arba's parents were certainly not your usual pair, and neither were the companions that they kept. Arba's mother was a runaway descendant of the Hera-Jin, an adventure-seeker who found her way into a crew of space-fairing pirates at an early age. Skilled with knives, her names was Balisong, and she was as graceful as she was deadly. Lithe of frame with brilliant orange hair that neatly framed her teal-skinned face when not pulled back, Balisong certainly didn't look the part of pirate, which made it all the easier for her to lure unsuspecting marks into a false sense of security when they made port.
It was shortly into her sixteenth year, some three years after she joined the pirates, that the young Hera-jin girl found herself stalking another mark, a man of otherworldly handsomeness with icy blue-gray skin and pure white hair... She'd never seen someone so handsome and so confident, his posture positively imposing a sense of superiority and a desire to obey. When those sharp black-rimmed eyes fell upon Balisong, she knew she'd found someone of great value, perhaps a prince of some planet who decided to abdicate his duties in favor of adventure like her... He would make for excellent ransom.
Observe, pursue, trap, seduce... These are the four steps that Balisong usually followed to pull men under her power. Following her mark into a bazaar and tailing him through the crowd, the Hera-jin found her usually impeccable guard slipping as she focused in on the handsome man ahead of her... She didn't even realize that she was being drawn into a narrow alleyway until she was already standing there, face to face with the man she'd been stalking. Should she run? Should she fight? She could probably kill the man if she needed to, but that was a waste of good money and came with a ton of risk... She'd fallen right into his trap, how had the tables turned like this? Conveniently for Balisong, her mark was not aggressive for the moment, so she did not need to progress to violence.
Parlay was the next plausible step, and so the two began a slow and deliberate exchange, each revealing bits and pieces of their own parts in the scene to the other to try and buy their escape... He was a traveler from another planet, obviously, though he refused to say where, and a criminal to boot. Certainly not nobility in any sense of the word, Balisong's mark further disappointed her by revealing that her association with him was even more dangerous than previously imagined, as he was wanted on multiple planets, including this one for thievery and assassination. Go figure, a pirate as well! When the two of them had finally realized the reality of the situation, they had to take a moment to enjoy the humor of it all.
Parlay turned into conversation, and conversation turned into romance... What had started off as a mark became a recruitment, Balisong offered the man a chance to join the crew, insisting that the Captain would gladly take him in. When her new companion obliged, she thought nothing of any possible ill-intent. Bringing him back to the ship, she would plead his case to the Captain, and though the Captain was certainly hesitant, he could not refuse Balisong's plea, as she was practically his daughter. This would prove to be a grand mistake, for you see, Balisong's mark was a consummate thief, not even other thieves were free from his reach.
A night of passion quickly fell upon Balisong, the Hera-Jin girl finding herself falling asleep in the arms of her new crewmate... When she awoke, she was strangely alone and the man she'd fallen for was nowhere to be found. More pressing than that, the money that the crew had stashed in the ship was completely missing, and the Captain was livid... It didn't take two braincells to figure out where the money went, and so the pirates picked up anchor and set sail for space in search of Balisong's mark, to steal back what was stolen from them.
Months passed during the search, and by the time Balisong and crew found him, she was so far along with child that she was showing. Cornering the mark on a tropical planet oft used as a hideaway for the upper-class and filthy-rich criminals, the Hera-Jin held him at knife-point, demanding back their money. Unfortunately for her, and much to his amusement, he'd already spent every last cent on a brand new ship. Put under much duress with the sudden realization that she would be going back to her crew empty-handed, Balisong's rage pushed her beyond her limit, and as she pressed forward with the knife, she sunk blade to flesh... His death was not written in the stars yet though, for as she went in for the kill, Balisong entered labor prematurely, doubling over with pain as her blade slid across her mark's chest.
The thief who stole her heart and money probably should have run here as well, but once again he found himself irresistibly drawn to the girl before him as he'd been months before... He'd initially planned to bed the girl before pulling off his heist, but what he hadn't planned on was how long he'd lingered in her chambers before he'd left. Even today, he found himself lingering when he should have fled, and so he took her to his ship, his own crew tending to her pregnancy as he escaped. Abducted by the man she begrudgingly loved, Balisong found herself running away again, fleeing her own crew when she realized she could not kill her mark, but they certainly would. Having their child upon his ship, the crew became her new family and she eventually became his wife. Strangely, she never got his name, nobody amongst his crew knew it, they only referred to him simply as "Captain Starshine".
The next ten years were a blur of child-rearing, audacious piracy, and flight from her old crew who still pursued them... It would be night when they docked on a planet for refuel that appeared unaligned with galactic authorities, and though they bed down under the presumption that they were safe, they were decidedly everything but. By the time Captain Starshine's crew awoke, the planet was under siege by a military force that roamed the stars... King Cold's Army, under the command of a young Cooler. Attempting to escape the planet under fire, Captain Starshine's crew was quickly targeted, the value of their ship not missed by Cooler's men. Blasted out of the sky, the crew were scattered upon the planet, Balisong and Starshine left under protection of their most loyal members with young Arba in tow. When Cooler's men came to capture the ship, they quickly dispatched the men remaining to guard. Starshine was quicker and stronger than most of his crew, but not strong enough, and he quickly met his end at their hands... Balisong would not be so lucky, as she was captured, screaming and running with Arba. Dragged off to Cooler's encampment, Balisong and Arba were placed into the slave-camp with the rest of the captured folks, Starshine's ship picked apart by the military men who'd killed her husband.
Over the next few years Balisong rotated from buyer to buyer, a slave among King Cold's Empire with less status than the common prostitute. When Arba finally came of a reasonable age, he would finally lobby to join King Cold's army, enlisting to perhaps someday purchase his mother's freedom. The last time Balisong saw her son, she could only feel a deep ache in her heart... She knew her son was going off to escape his fate as a slave, but was this change really an improvement? For a moment she thought back to her own decision to run away from her planet, to all the adventures she'd had and everything that brought her to this moment... Perhaps this was her penance. Closing her eyes and wiping away a tear for her lost love, the Hera-Jin woman opened them to a new reality, waving off the last man she'd ever love, her son. Perhaps one day she'd be reunited with Arba, who knows what the universe has planned though.
Scarcely trained as he was little more than a slave, Arba was sent to the front lines of Frieza's Army, serving as your standard grunt. It would be here that he spent the next few years, showing his loyalty to the Galactic Frieza Army and serving as a lower-class soldier with unimpressive power. Never losing sight of his goals, Arba buckled down, resolving to make something of himself in Frieza's military, and when the Free Galactic Force became an issue, he finally found out exactly how he'd do that. Taking on orders to hunt down the Free Galactic Force, Arba set off in search of his targets hiding amongst the stars.
Personality:
Despite his youth, Arba is a jaded individual who trusts few and shows weakness to none. Raised as a slave and enlisted in Frieza's army, ruthlessness is his modus operandi, with little room for mercy when it can be the difference between life and death. When isolated, Arba spends his time planning his next step towards ascending in rank, and often sees little beyond opportunities to achieve his goals. Love is beyond him, for the moment, and his only pleasure in life is praise from his commander, which he never gets.
Appearance:
A mix of his parent's lineage, Arba's appearance leans much more towards his mother's side of the family. Shoulder-length orange hair frames his dark-rimmed black eyes, his skin somewhere between his father's and mothers, a shade of blue that could only be described as glaucous. A single streak of white runs through Arba's orange hair, just above his right eye, an unusual trait that stands out even amongst the oddly colored Frieza Army. Clothing wise, Arba wears the standard uniform of the troops: the stretchy Arcosian-made battle armor and black undersuit, along with an optional matching helmet to protect him if exposed to open space and inhospitable environments. If he expects to encounter enemy combatants, he always has a scouter on him.
Interests:
If he could be allowed to enjoy anything, he'd probably enjoy eating. The simple pleasures would certainly be the easiest for him to find, but he'd never succumb to such weakness as "enjoyment".
Motive:
For the moment his motivation is to ascend in rank and social status, so as to buy his mother's freedom.
